Increasing Internal Memory of Android Phone
Increasing Internal Memory of Android Phone
[Introduction]
I got a new phone recently. Having a tight budget, I could not afford to get a high end phone, but what I got was enough for me. The phone has a lot of features for its budget and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. However one flaw was the limited amount of usable internal memory I had; a mere 600 MB. For a few days I was contended with small games like Temple Run and Cut The Rope but I wanted to try out some of the high end games as well. It however was impossible since most of the games had size greater that 1 GB and games the game data(cache, obb whatever you wanna call)was to be kept in the internal memory. What could I do?

Possible Solutions(which came to my mind at that time):
Buy a new phone(cannot even consider it!)
- Increase the internal memory(maybe ?)
Question was how I could increase the internal memory. A lot of Google searches told me that it would not be possible without rooting, i.e jail-breaking my phone. Rooting would void my one-year warranty. Now THAT I didnt wanna do ! But there was a silver lining. I would get my warranty back if I unrooted the phone. So I decided to take the risk.

How To Increase Internal Memory Of Android Phone
Lets get started. We will not exactly be increasing internal memory as it is not possible but what we will do is create a separate partition in the microSD card which will be used as internal memory. For this to take effect you will be required to root your phone. Possible question - Hey bro, how do I root my phone ?
Answer - There are different methods to root different android phones. Just do a Google search, root and come back here.
Requirements:
- Mini Tool Partition Wizard
- Link2SD
- A microSD card from which you can spare some space, i.e the amount of space by which you wanna increase the size of your internal memory.
Take a backup of your microSD card as we will need to delete the partition of the card. After doing so, follow these steps:
- Install Mini Tool Partition Wizard(link above).
- Insert microSD card in a card reader or in your phone and connect to the computer.
- Launch Mini Tool Partition Wizard.
- You will see your memory card listed among the drives(probably under Disk 2). Right click and select Delete.
- Right click again and select Create New.
- Under Create as list Primary and File System as FAT32. This is the allocation where you will be storing all the files of the memory card. So allocated accordingly by dragging the slider.
- Right click on the space left and similarly create another partition. However, under file system you are to choose ext4.
- Click on Apply button on the top, right hand corner.
You are done with the partitioning. Disconnect your phone(if you used USB method) or insert memory card(if you used card reader).
- Now install Link2SD on your phone and launch.
- Select ext4 and click OK. Then you will get a message that Mount Script Has Been Created.
- Reboot phone and launch Link2SD. If you do not get any message, then you have succeeded.
- Now go to settings and check the autolink to automatically move apps upon installation. Make sure all three boxes are checked(Link Application, Link dalivk-cache and Link library files)are checked.
- Work Done !
Now that you have increased your internal memory, you can install as many a games and apps you want !! If you want to get your memory card back to normal, connect it to computer, delete both partitions(FAT32 and ext4) with Mini Tool Partition Wizard and create a new FAT32 partition. Enjoy !
