Review:
Secara logika jika kamu masih berhasil memperoleh keuntungan dari produk atau jasa yang kamu hasilkan atau lakukan sebenarnya wajar jika kamu tidak berniat untuk melakukan sebuah perubahan. Mencoba menjadi lebih baik tapi dengan risiko merugi atau meneruskan formula yang sama dan telah terbukti menguntungkan? Sudah sejak film kedua Blue Sky Studios menerapkan cara opsi pertama, recycling terhadap Ice Age dengan mengandalkan pesona karakter dengan aksi hyperactive mereka. Tiga film penerus Ice Age sebelumnya tidak semuanya terasa kurang menyenangkan, namun mayoritas dari mereka tidak berhasil berada di level yang sama dengan Ice Age. Ice Age: Collision Course?
Ketika mencoba mengubur biji pohon ek kesayangannya agar tidak dicuri Scrat justru mengaktifkan sebuah pesawat luar angkasa lewat aksinya itu. Pesawat tersebut membawanya ke ruang angkasa di mana ia mulai menciptakan kekacauan. Akibat ulah yang dilakukan oleh Scrat beberapa meteor sedang bergerak mengarah menuju ke bumi. Hal tersebut memaksa Manny (Ray Romano) berserta istrinya Ellie (Queen Latifah), Peaches (Keke Palmer) dan tunangannya Julian (Adam DeVine), Sid (John Leguizamo) bersama pacarnya Francine (Melissa Rauch), serta Diego (Denis Leary) terpaksa meninggalkan rumah mereka untuk menyelamatkan diri.
Hanya itu? Iya, hanya itu masalah di sinopsis tadi, meteor datang dan The Herd kembali dihadapkan pada berbagai rintangan. Sebenarnya bukan masalah karena empat film terdahulunya dari segi cerita juga tidak terasa special tapi dengan budget $324 juta berhasil menghasilkan box-office sebesar $2,8 Milyar. Sejak film ketiga sudah tidak lagi menaruh ekspektasi pada entri terbaru Ice Age film series untuk membawa franchise ini bergerak naik secara kualitas, hanya datang dan berharap �kekacauan� yang diberikan mampu menghibur seperti dua film pertama Ice Age. Tapi sayangnya yang terjadi justru sebaliknya, kemampuan menghibur setiap film Ice Age terbaru sejak Ice Age: The Meltdown berada di grafik menurun. Presentasi visual yang menarik dengan parade warna-warni masih ada, berbagai kekonyolan slapstick tidak menjadi masalah, tapi pesona Ice Age: Collision Course tidak pernah terasah. Yang tersisa hanya seekor sapi perah kekurangan nutrisi yang tidak lagi menghasilkan susu yang enak dan segar.
Dengan durasi 94 menit tidak banyak atau mungkin lebih tepatnya tidak ada hal baru yang benar-benar menarik di Ice Age: Collision Course, jika kamu sudah menonton Ice Age: Continental Drift maka ini akan terasa seperti film tersebut dengan topeng baru. Wajar memang karena pola film Ice Age selalu mengikuti arah dan sasaran yang sama sejak awal, tapi yang menjengkelkan adalah di film ini sutradara Mike Thurmeier bersama tim produksi seperti tidak tertarik untuk mengambil risiko bahkan dalam jumlah mini sekalipun. Akibat terlalu akrab Ice Age: Collision Course seperti tidak memiliki ruang untuk kejutan yang tampil menarik, hal utama yang diharapkan dari film ini. Karakter eksentrik tampil di dalam zona aman dan nyaman mereka, tidak ada "konsekuensi" yang menantang membuat pesona karakter kerap terasa datar. Dampaknya kecerian yang diberikan film ini mini, bahkan bertemu dengan lelucon yang lucu dapat dihitung dengan jari tangan.
Ice Age: Collision Course punya usaha menghadirkan lelucon yang tidak buruk tapi hasil yang diciptakan lebih sering berada di zona ambigu, mayoritas berada di antara lucu dan tidak lucu. Dari fart jokes hingga slapstick lelucon terbaik dari Ice Age: Collision Course hanya berhasil menggelitik, banyak dari mereka yang sebenarnya bisa menjadi lucu tapi seperti kurang bumbu. Usaha bermain dengan referensi pop culture seperti misalnya 2001 - A Space Odyssey juga terasa kurang oke. Masalah terbesar hadir dari karakter yang di sini seperti saling berebut panggung utama untuk meraih atensi. Tidak hanya karakter utama namun karakter lainnya kini mendapat kesempatan yang lebih besar di layar, kehadiran mereka sayangnya membuat alur cerita dipenuhi �ketidakjelasan,� Ice Age: Collision Course terasa seperti kumpulan sketsa dari berbagai individu yang tidak semuanya berhasil tampil menarik.
Jika dibandingkan dengan Ice Age: Continental Drift secara materi film ini terasa lebih baik, tapi sayangnya tidak ada penekanan serta arah yang jelas dan kuat, tidak ada fokus yang kuat. Seandainya ada �batasan� yang jelas mungkin berbagai aksi konyol yang dilakukan karakter bisa menghasilkan hit yang lebih oke ketimbang aksi bermain-main mereka itu yang terasa terlalu "kasar" untuk terintegrasi kedalam plot dan narasi. Ini bukan seperti yang ingin narasi dan plot dengan kualitas yang lebih baik tapi seandainya ada jalur dan alur yang lebih jelas dan menarik berbagai kekonyolan yang dilakukan oleh karakter dapat terasa lebih menarik. Interaksi antar karakter miskin tik-tok yang lucu, berbagai isu kecil juga terasa mentah dan kosong. Plot petualangan memang berhasil menampilkan berbagai ide tapi kombinasi yang dihasilkan tidak membuat aksi hyperactive karakter konsisten terasa menghibur.
Mereka bilang ini film terakhir di Ice Age film series, semoga ini benar-benar sebuah one last ride. Visually good dengan ide yang cukup menarik, Ice Age: Collision Course memiliki banyak kesempatan untuk tampil lucu dan menghibur sayangnya keceriaan yang mereka hadirkan terasa terlalu biasa dan sebagai sebuah kesatuan kurang fit satu sama lain. Cerita yang terlalu biasa tidak masalah, itu sudah hadir sejak film ketiga, tapi presentasi yang terlalu �polos� dan tidak imajinatif merupakan sebuah masalah yang mengganggu. Narasi yang lelah bersama aksi slapstick dan hyperactive tanpa pesona dan punch yang konsisten menarik, dare I say Ice Age: Collision Course merupakan imitasi paling lemah di antara imitasi Ice Age lainnya. So long The Herd, and Scrat. Segmented.
